Linda Lane Literary & Associates was founded with the intention of bridging the gap between promising manuscripts and well-positioned submissions for mainstream publishing.Rather than operating as a high-volume agency, we maintain a limited client list. This allows for direct involvement in each project, particularly during the critical stages of refinement and positioning prior to submission. We work with authors whose manuscripts show both a strong narrative voice and a natural fit within the current publishing market, with the goal of preparing them for serious acquisition consideration. Our process is built on preparation. We believe that how a manuscript is positioned is just as important as the writing itself.

Founder – Linda Lane
I was born in Australia and began my career in editorial development, working with independent publishing professionals and manuscript consultants across Melbourne and Sydney. My early work focused on reviewing manuscripts and helping shape them into projects that could move forward for submission. After relocating to New York City, I transitioned into literary representation, collaborating with agents and industry professionals on select projects. Over time, I established a smaller, more focused agency so I could remain directly involved in the work rather than managing a large list.My approach is centered on fit. I don’t look for perfect manuscripts, but for material that shows a clear sense of direction and aligns with what publishers are actively looking for. From there, I work closely with authors to refine and position their work so it can be presented with clarity and purpose.

Representation
We represent fiction and nonfiction, along with a limited number of children’s projects that demonstrate strong potential for development and clear positioning within the current publishing landscape. Our focus is on manuscripts that show a strong voice, a clear sense of direction, and a natural alignment with what publishers are actively seeking. While projects do not need to be final, they should be developed enough to allow for meaningful refinement and targeted submission. We are particularly drawn to work that can be positioned for broader readership, including upmarket and literary fiction, memoir, narrative nonfiction, and select commercially viable concepts with a defined audience. We primarily focus on unpublished work, though previously self-published manuscripts may be considered in select cases where the material shows strong potential for re-development and can be repositioned for new submission.

Our Process
Each manuscript is evaluated not only for its writing, but for its potential place within the commercial publishing market. When we take on a project, we work closely with the author to refine key elements, strengthen structure where needed, and clarify how the work will be presented to mainstream publishers.Submissions are handled selectively and with clear intent, focusing on opportunities where the material can be considered at a serious acquisition level. The goal is to ensure that each project enters the market prepared, positioned, and competitive.
